The Weedoo Advantage: Low-Impact Aquatic Restoration
At AUS Dredge and Dive, our motto has always been "Can. Do." For over 25 years, we’ve built a reputation for solving the toughest underwater challenges with reliability and precision. Today, we’re highlighting an important addition to our fleet: the Weedoo.
What is A Weedoo?
The Weedoo boat is a specialized, low-impact aquatic weed harvester designed for pond and lake restoration. Operating directly on the water, it removes invasive vegetation—including cattails, algae, and floating debris—with minimal disturbance to the surrounding landscape or aquatic life.

What is a Weedoo Used For?
Over the years, managing invasive aquatic vegetation has ranged from disruptive shoreline equipment to slow, manual removal. Today, AUS Dredge & Dive evaluates each site and selects the most appropriate method. The Weedoo is one of the tools in our fleet that allows for targeted, low-impact vegetation removal when conditions call for it, complementing our broader dredging and restoration services.
What is Mechanical Weed Harvesting?
Think of weed harvesting as the aquatic equivalent of mowing a lawn and bagging the clippings. This is fundamentally different from simple "cutting."
Standard cutting only severs the plant, leaving the debris to float away or sink—which actually spreads invasive species through fragments and adds to the muck. Harvesting cuts and collects simultaneously. The vegetation is then hauled to the shore and disposed of, ensuring the plants don't just regrow from leftover debris.
The Benefits of Harvesting
- Removes the "Muck": When weeds die and sink, they turn into muck (decomposing organic matter). Harvesting stops this cycle by physically removing the plants before they rot.
- Nutrient Mitigation: Aquatic weeds store nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen. By removing the plants, you are literally pulling those pollutants out of the lake, which helps prevent future algae blooms.
- Immediate, Eco-Friendly Results: This is a chemical-free process that is safe for fish, pets, and the environment. Unlike chemical treatments that take weeks to work and leave water off-limits, harvesting makes the water clear and ready for swimming or boating immediately.
Low impact, fast, and effective—the Weedoo is the perfect tool for jobs of any size from HOA ponds, commercial waterways, to private golf course ponds. Recently, we have had great success employing our Weedoo in projects such as Cabela’s Fort Worth.
Key Features of the Weedoo
- Speed and Efficiency: By cutting and collecting simultaneously, we drastically reduce time on the water. Moving 500 lbs of vegetation a minute means we get your project done faster.
- Versatility: From floating trash and algae to deeply rooted plants, this machine bridges the gap between manual skimming and large-scale dredging.
- Extreme Accessibility: Its compact design allows us to navigate tight, confined areas—such as HOA ponds, golf course water hazards, and outdoor venue lagoons—that larger barges simply cannot reach.
- Eco-Friendly Design: The lightweight hull and specialized propulsion minimize bottom disturbance, protecting the local ecosystem and maintaining water clarity while we work.
The Future of Pond Maintenance
As the demand for sustainable, low-impact maintenance grows, the Weedoo plays a vital role in the AUS approach. Regular Weedoo maintenance helps extend the lifespan of waterways and allows dredging projects to be planned thoughtfully and strategically, rather than reactively.
Our chemical-free process creates opportunities for reuse when conditions allow. The harvested vegetation is 100% organic matter, and may be composted and repurposed as a nutrient-rich mulch, offering a "full-circle" approach that can turn pond maintenance into a valuable byproduct.
Precision Performance in Texas- and Nationwide
The Weedoo offers a low-impact, fast, and effective solution for water projects of any scale. Whether you are managing HOA ponds, commercial waterways, or private golf course features, the Weedoo’s precision allows it to navigate confined spaces with minimal downtime, ensuring your operations continue without interruption.
