Behind-the-Scenes Pond Dredging and Intake Maintenance at Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Behind the rides and attractions at Six Flags Fiesta Texas is critical water infrastructure that must perform reliably every day. Beneath the Superman: Krypton Coaster, a working pond supplies water to the park’s waterfall features and plays a key role in overall water circulation.

AUS Dredge & Dive was selected to perform professional pond dredging and intake maintenance to address sediment buildup and restore proper system performance—without draining the pond or interrupting park operations.

The Challenge: Sediment Buildup Around Pump Intake Screens

This pond functions as a reservoir that feeds multiple water features throughout the park. Over time, sediment, leaves, and organic debris accumulated on the pond bottom and around intake screens.

As material built up, pump efficiency declined. Restricted clearance around the intake structures limited water flow and increased the risk of reduced performance or unplanned maintenance. For a high-traffic destination, consistent operation of water features was essential.

The Solution: Hydraulic Pond Dredging and Diver-Assisted Intake Cleaning

AUS implemented a targeted pond maintenance approach focused on restoring function while minimizing disturbance to the surrounding environment.

  • Hydraulic Pond Dredging
A 6-inch hydraulic dredge was used to remove accumulated sediment from the pond bottom and reestablish proper clearance around the intake screens. This process restored unrestricted water flow to the pumps.
  • Diver-Assisted Intake Cleaning
Certified commercial divers performed hands-on debris removal in sensitive and confined areas where mechanical equipment alone was not sufficient. This allowed for precise cleaning of intake structures while protecting fish and existing vegetation.
  • Sediment Removal and Dewatering
Dredged material was managed using dewatering bags, which separated solids from water and helped maintain pond clarity throughout the project.

The Results: Improved Water Flow, Clearer Water, Reliable Operation

Following dredging and intake maintenance, the pond is once again operating as intended. Intake screens are clear, pumps are drawing water efficiently, and overall water clarity has significantly improved.

By addressing sediment buildup proactively, the project helped extend the service life of the pond and intake system while reducing the likelihood of future operational disruptions.
